America, please answer.

Where is this reported "midwest?" Seems there might be something to this rumor of its existence. Just consider it a rhetorical question, do not leave your barcalounger. Slow Dazzle is hot on the trail, sniffing clues, making follow-up calls, etc. Call us seekers if you will. We're only out to either de-bunk or become believers. And in so becoming, we might just make a believer out of you too!

Call ahead and meet us on the road. If you have an extra trailer, all the better. Check here for dates. Tonight is Philadelphia at the Khyber. I'm playing drums.

I really regret putting this info on here but I know many of you will want to know..

Apparently last night in Chicago while on tour with City Mouse, Hunter Whitaker of Coven & Crazy D passed away. Details are really sketchy but according to some of those present, he drowned in the Chicago river.

This is a terrible, terrible thing -- Hunter was a really great guy and had a lot of friends that will sorely miss him. Our sincere condolences go out to all friends and family. I'll post more details as they become available.

RIP

Here is a clipping out of the Chicago Tribune. (login required)

Hunter rapped in the local gangster influenced group Coven and Crazy D. He has a son named Darby and was a great guy. He used to come into where I worked at the CD shop and we would talk about the film Desperate Teenage Love Dolls and Red Kross. I met him back in the late nineties in Berea where we would both attend punk rock shows and drink beer. His influence in the Eugene Records scene was immense and is going to be irreplaceable. Although we were never close, I am truly saddened by this travesty. Hunter was a hell of a guy and I am going to miss him dearly.

God Is Ma Mare

Hall of fame jockey Pat Day retires.

Writes a friend,

"I always got a kick out of how the hardcore lexington gamblers called him 'little jesus.' I've heard gamblers scream at the tv "pray harder and get that nag up, you little jesus son of a bitch!"

I once served Pat Day and his wife cheeseburgers in Downtown Louisville. The kitchen was screwed up, the food came out late and I watched Day become visibly anxious. They ate very quickly, paid the bill and bolted. Not 20 minutes later I looked up at the TV in the bar, tuned to Churchill Downs coverage, and there was Day, mounted and moments away from start gate.
